How to play Tunk

Tunk (also called Tonk) is a quick rummy-style game for two to four players on spades.live. Each player is dealt five cards (seven in some games); the rest form the stock, with one card turned up to start the discard pile.

On your turn, draw from the stock or take the top discard. Then you may lay down spreads — three or four cards of the same rank, or a run of three or more in the same suit — and hit spreads already on the table by adding a card. Finish by discarding one card.

Empty your hand and you tunk out. Or, at the start of your turn, you can drop: lay down your hand, and if its total is the lowest at the table, you win. If anyone is lower (or tied), they catch you and win double.

Card values and scoring

• Aces count 1, face cards 10, and number cards their face value.
• Tunking out or catching a drop wins 2 points; winning a drop, or having the lowest hand when the stock runs out, wins 1.
• With five cards, a dealt hand totaling 49 or 50 wins on the spot (optional).
• Hit lock (optional): if someone hits your spread, you can’t drop on your next turn.

• Dropping — Before drawing, lay your hand down: if it’s the lowest you win — if not, whoever is lowest wins double.
• Hit lock — If someone hits your spread, you can’t drop on your next turn.
• 49 or 50 on the deal wins — A dealt hand totaling 49 or 50 wins the round on the spot (for 2).
• Runs Aces low only (A-2-3) · Aces high or low (Q-K-A too)
